EYST Wales achieves Trusted Charity Mark award

As the lead body for race in Wales, EYST Wales are proud to announce that the Trusted Charity Mark award has been achieved. This quality mark has been awarded by NCVO (National Council for Voluntary Organisations) through a thorough external assessment, recognizing the vital work we do as a third sector organization. According to our assessment report “[EYST] has an experienced Trustee Board, a wealth of passionate and committed staff and volunteers who clearly put their users at the heart of what they do and robust monitoring and evaluation systems”.

What is the Trusted Charity Mark?

The Trusted Charity Mark is a nationally-recognized award. It verifies our standing as an organization on legal and operational grounds. Trusted Charity is marked on 11 quality areas: including Governance, Leadership and Management, User-centred service, Managing people and Managing money.

EYST Wales has performed to a high level in each of these areas. For example, staff and volunteers are involved in developing plans and determining priorities for projects. Furthermore, board members clearly understand their collective and individual roles and powers to ensure that the organisation progresses as it should be run, is achieving its strategic objectives and that it plays the role of a “critical friend”.

Levels of Achievement

EYST Wales has achieved Level 1 of the Trusted Charity Mark. There are two levels to achieve in total. Organizations are able to choose the level suitable to them according to size, staff capacity, resources and working culture.

Achieving Level 1 demonstrates that systems and structures have been put in place to protect the rights of the organization but also its employees and service users. This means criteria involving legal obligations have been met too, making EYST Wales the credible and transparent organization it needs to be, and giving reassurance to funders and supporters that we are delivering work of a high quality and standard.

Rocio Cifuentes, CEO at EYST Wales, said “I’m very proud of all the hard work of the whole staff, board and volunteer team who have made it possible for us to achieve this award, which looks systematically at all aspects of our work. The rigorous assessment process has been hugely beneficial to us as an organisation, enabling us to identify and address weaker areas along the way. I also want to give a special thanks to Lloyd Williams, our Head of People and Governance who has galvanized the team to complete this unique journey.”

Achieving the Trusted Charity Mark, does not mean the end of this work! We will continue to hold ourselves to the highest standards and work towards achieving the next Level of the Trusted Charity Mark, as well as other quality marks in the sector, as we continue towards our organizational mission of supporting ethnic minority people to contribute, participate and be valued members of Welsh society.
