Refugee Week Art & Poetry Competition - Winners Revealed!
EYST Wales has many different services provided across Wales for Black, Asian and minority ethnic communities. The support provided for asylum seekers and refugees is particularly pertinent as the media coverage of the crisis in Ukraine faces us on a daily basis. As well as practical support to hosts and refugees and their families, EYST works creatively to try and give hope to the vulnerable children and adults fleeing their homes riven with conflict.
EYST asked children and young people aged 0-25 to take part in an art, drawing and writing competition as part of Refugee Week. The children and young people were asked to consider the theme of 'Healing'. Each of them was asked for their own take on healing as a theme and the charity was overwhelmed by the responses that were submitted.
The children and young people showed huge talent and creativity but the most poignant thing of all, were the art works and pieces of writing themselves. The expression of hope, of rainbows at the end of difficult journeys, of defining “healing” in poetry was both moving and beautiful. The judges all agreed, “We found the task of judging the competition of this wonderful artwork a challenge, because every expression of creativity was unique to the child or young person concerned and they were amazing.”
The judges agreed on the entries and the winners were awarded vouchers up to £25 - the winning finalist submissions are pictured here, enjoy!
