Volunteering

Volunteering Project

I volunteer through sharing my personal story in the Think Project’s sessions with young people raising awareness of refugees and asylum seeker in Britain.
I was motivated to do this to make a difference to the lives of young people. I am happy that my personal experience might have a positive impact on their life. Additionally, I volunteer in the EYST office helping refugees and asylum seekers with various practical problems they face, and this is something that gives me great satisfaction. – Issayas Debru, EYST Volunteer

The EYST Volunteering Project is a Volunteering in Wales and Gwirvol Funded project, which began in July 2014 after recognising the need to create more volunteering roles within EYST. It aims to encourage people from all ages, backgrounds and skill sets to help EYST provide its services and to actively participate within their community in a mutually beneficial way.  EYST has always used volunteers but the new project enables this to be developed, expanded and improved. We currently have over 50 volunteers doing many different roles. These include:

  • Youth Tutor
  • Drop In Assistant
  • Support Assistant
  • Interpreter
  • Admin
  • Diversity Speaker
  • Youth Awareness Speaker
  • Activities Assistant
  • Activities Leader

The process to volunteer with EYST is straightforward. There are many benefits to both the volunteer and the organisation. These include:

  • Gain Confidence
  • Learn new skills
  • Improve your CV
  • Be part of a diverse and dynamic team

The EYST Volunteering Project is always looking for more volunteers to help us to provide our services. If you are interested in volunteering, or would like to know more about this project, please contact our volunteer coordinator via email at Lloyd@eyst.org.uk
