Safe

The Safe Project is a Big-Lottery Funded project aimed at breaking down barriers and building trust, confidence and understanding between ethnic minority young males and community safety agencies including police, prison, youth offending service, probation, fire service, magistrates and crown prosecution service.
The project ran between 2007 and 2010 and achieved its goals by organising information workshops delivered by the community safety agencies to young people, supporting and providing legal advice to young people involved in the criminal justice system, and by delivering training and awareness raising to professionals in the community safety agencies.
The project was highly successful and in 2009 this success was recognised when it was awarded the top prize of Overall Best Project in the Swansea Lord Mayor’s Community Regeneration Awards, as well as top prize in the Best Community Safety Project Category.
Our work in this field continues, and while we have made huge progress in terms of building positive relationships between community safety and ethnic minority young people, much also remains to be done.
