Family Link Project
The EYST Family Link Project is a new project funded via the Welsh Government’s Families First programme. The project provides support for young people from BME communities and their families with a geographical focus on Castle and Hafod Wards in Swansea.
Young people are provided with one to one support, mentoring, advice and guidance, and their parents are also supported in order to achieve the best outcomes for their young people. The main aims of the service are:
- · To improve access to mainstream service provision, facilitate integration and provide culturally appropriate one to one and group work where needed.
- · To build on direct support of young people and their families to improve family relationships, conflict resolution and support parents of young people to build resilience and improve coping skills.
In our experience, the best way to ensure long-term support for a child or young person is to help their family to overcome the barriers that they may face to supporting their child/ young person. These may include language, cultural, religious, or practical/ financial barriers. EYST also work with both mainstream service providers to help them to improve their awareness and understanding of these barriers in order to reduce them in future.
